Kiln Yard Mission Statement

Our Mission: To provide artists and the public access to firing ceramic works in gas reduction and atmospheric soda firing. Our firings are participatory and require active contribution to the firings. If your work is being fired, plan to get involved!

Kiln firing is and experience to grow and learn more intimately about how to interact with your
ceramics though the dynamic effect of fire.

Why is this important? Here at the Kiln Yard it’s a hope that you show a willingness to learn
and better understand how working the kilns effects your work. How does your placement in the kiln matter? How does the length of time and quality of reduction effect your work? How do you
properly maintain and care for equipment at the yard? Participating in a fire here means
better understanding answers to these questions which in turn will impact your work and your
ability to control, predict and understand the results.

The Kiln Yard is located within Green Anchors, in the St Johns neighborhood, a
unique and dynamic creative space. This community space is open by invitation and accompanied by SJCC owner or staff.
