“You cannot help but learn more as you take the world into your hands. Take it up reverently, for it is an old piece of clay, with millions of thumbprints on it.”
--- John Updike
Membership is $200 a month. Membership will entitle you to a key to the space and access 24/7, except for scheduled class and event times, which are at the discretion of the SJCC. Shelves are provided for storing tools and ware. The cost of kiln firings is not included in a Membership; however members are given a reduced rate of $.04 cents per square inch per firing.
Members are responsible for their materials and tools. Clay tools in common areas may be considered community tools. It should be understood that students attending class have priority of the space while classes are in session and that open studio times are equally shared times by students and Punch Card Members. Being a member of the SJCC doesn't guarantee increased access to kilns and kiln firings. We are not a suitable venue for large quantity ceramic production.
At the time someone wishes to join the SJCC, all full member spaces are to be occupied first, before any share spaces are permitted. Sharing a member’s space is permissible at SJCC provided that the current member agrees and the application is accepted and approved by the director. Division of the space is worked out among the 2 members. The additional member is to fill out the application and pay rent separately unless in agreement with the partner in the space. Members sharing a space are subject to all the existing rules, benefits and community educate at the SJCC.
